We finally received a referral to see an ENT doctor, Dr. Khabie. When we saw him her ears were pretty clear (she had had an antibiotic shot a couple days before her appointment). He decided to put her on a 10-day cycle of an antibiotic to see if that would help keep her ears clear, and then we had plans to see him again after 3 weeks. She seemed to do really well over those three weeks and I was thinking that maybe she was finally on the mend and we could postpone (cancel?) the ear tube surgery. When we went back for her check-up, one ear was clear and the other ear was "very infected". Dr. Khabie couldn't believe that she hadn't been feverish or cranky. He said the infection was very significant. She was put on another round of antibiotic, and we were also given a low dose antibiotic for her to have over the next few weeks until her ear tube surgery.
Her surgery went well and she was a real trooper! She was a little cranky when she came out of anesthesia, but as soon as we got home she was her old perky self with a big big appetite (no food since the night before). Since then we've had a recheck with Dr. Khabie and he said her ears look "great" and better than he's ever seen them. All the "liquid cement-like" fluid was gone. Yah! Since her surgery she has been mostly sleeping through the night too which has been great (now if we could get William to sleep through the night-that's a whole 'nother story).
